The Collective

The Collective

The Collective is a community of artists, musicians, and makers, brought together by Whistle and united by a shared commitment to craft, authenticity, and mutual aid. Whistle is early and growing a space where members gain access to collaborative opportunities, a platform to be featured, participate in giving back to their community alongside fair-pay commissions (determined by the artists) from Whistle’s online marketplace, and in turn help shape what we build together.

How the Whistle Community Aid Fund Works

Communities don't thrive by accident. At Whistle, the mutual aid fund is part of that business architecture, built directly into how the marketplace runs. When an artist lists their work on the marketplace they get to direct where the mutual aid portion of the price goes. It is not a tip, and it is not a checkout add-on you have to think about. It is simply how Whistle is built. When you buy from an artist here, you are also helping keep this community steady.

Every artist chooses where their contribution goes (designate on the form on this page). The two pools:

  • The Artist Hardship Pool. Direct support for the artists, makers, and musicians in the Whistle community when they hit an emergency. The people who make the work you love are not on their own here.

  • Direct Aid Pool. Support that goes to community members facing urgent needs, like food insecurity, emergency housing and basic needs for people leaving domestic violence, and emergency funds for other necessities. Whistle offers a set of causes, and our artists can propose new ones for the community to vote on.

If these values resonate with you, we'd love to hear from you. Complete the application form and tell us about your practice, your background, and what community means to you, along with links to your portfolio or recent work. We review every submission personally and respond to all applicants.
