Whistle artists musicians makers The Collective mutual aid

Our Mission

Whistle is an online marketplace where artists of every medium build upon their careers with promotion, collaboration, and mentorship behind them. A portion of every sale goes toward mutual aid, directed by the artists of The Collective to fellow creatives in crisis or community members with emergency needs such as groceries for the week or funds for leaving domestic violence. We stand with the human service and arts service organizations that have lost funding, and we report every dollar of mutual aid publicly, so commerce and care can move together with transparently.

Our Vision

We envision communities where artist can build a whole life from their work, and where something as simple as buying a print or a drum lesson helps someone in need, and creating businesses with people at the center. Where The Collective becomes a place to collaborate, perform, learn from one another, and be seen. Where help reaches people directly, and the organizations that serve them can give more of themselves to their work. Whistle began in Pittsburgh, now includes artists in New York City, and is expanding across the United States, one sale at a time, until commerce and care live in the same gesture.

About Us

In 2025, one in three U.S. nonprofits had government funding cut, delayed, or frozen. Whistle began as an effort to help those organizations earn new revenue. Through 50 conversations with the people doing that work, we came to understand that a custom branded marketplace asked for more change than they were ready to make. So we went to the root.
On October 14, 2026, we opened the Whistle marketplace, an online home for artists, makers, and musicians of every medium. A portion of every sale goes toward mutual aid. The artists of The Collective decide how much to give, from 1 to 10 percent, and where it goes. They can support a fellow artist in crisis through the Artist Hardship Pool, or help someone facing food insecurity or seeking a safe place to land after leaving domestic violence through the Direct Aid Pool. Members can propose new causes for The Collective to vote on, and anyone can give directly to either pool.
We wanted to build a place where artists are supported in growing their careers, surrounded by people who believe in their work. Artists apply to join The Collective, and once they do, we promote their work, connect them with collaborators, offer mentorship, open doors to new opportunities, and stand behind them through the Artist Hardship Pool when an emergency hits.
We also built Whistle with heavy hearts for the human service and arts service organizations that have lost funding. Mutual aid lets us reach the people they serve directly and lighten some of the weight they carry. We believe business can and should do good wherever it can, and that commerce and care belong together.
We have been open about how we are building Whistle from the start, and we will publicly report every dollar of mutual aid on our website and Instagram. Whistle is based in Pittsburgh, now includes artists in New York City, and is growing across the country, with events and new ways to get involved on the way.
